During the summer break, the library's sign was refurbished. The school library is inextricably linked with our school life. We usually borrow books there and study in the Reading Lounge and Reading Room. However, there would be quite a lot of students who may not be familiar with the school library. This is the reason why I prepared a guide for such people. Let’s go find out what’s on each floor!

1. 1F

On the first floor is the Reading Lounge, which is often used by students. The Reading Lounge is a space where you can study freely, and unlike the reading room, it is characterized by being an open space. It is available all year round from 6 am to 12 pm.

2. 2F

On the second floor, there are spaces where computers can be used, such as a Digital Information Room and an Information Education Room. The Digital Information Room has abundant digital materials such as DVDs, Blue Rays, and videos. In the case of a regular PC seat, you can use it after taking an empty seat and logging in to your Saemmul account. In the case of a laptop seat, you can use the PC for reservation at the entrance of the digital information room after allocating the seat. It is open from 9 am to 9 pm on weekdays.

In addition, a small meeting room, an academic information support team, and a copy room are also located on this floor.

3. 3F

On the 3rd floor, there is Materials Room 1 and a Group Study Room. In Materials Room 1, general materials (general material classification numbers and topics: 000 general classes, 100 philosophy, 200 religions, 300 social sciences, 400 linguistics, 500 pure sciences, 600 technical sciences) and all assignment materials are provided. You can browse or borrow the materials you want to use directly from the bookshelf. This place is also available from 9 am to 9 pm on weekdays.Undergraduate students can borrow up to 7 books, and the borrowing period is 7 days and can be extended a total of 7 times. Also, please remember that you can apply for the purchase of up to 30 books per semester (up to 100,000 won per book, up to a total of 500,000 won).

To use Group Study Room 2 and 4, reservations must be made through the Sangmyung Library website and the 'Sangmyung University Library' app. It is available from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays and is limited to 4 to 12 people. It can be used for up to 3 hours per day.

4. 4F

On the 4th floor, there is a Reference Room and General Reading Room 1 and 2. Reference materials such as encyclopedias, specialized dictionaries, yearbooks, and statistical data are located in the Reference Room, where periodicals such as domestic and foreign academic and liberal arts magazines are located. The necessary materials are in the form of directly finding the materials you want to use on the shelves, reading them, and borrowing them. Unlike other places, the operating hours are a little shorter, from 9:00 am to 5:30 pm. Academic information utilization education and customized education in connection with classes are also provided here.

General Reading Room 1 and 2 are frequently used by students and are especially crowded during exam periods. They are available 24/7 from 6 am to 11 pm and must be used after assigning a seat through the ‘Sangmyung University Library’ App or at the kiosk on the 1st and 4th floors. The initial ticketing period is 3 hours, but the extension ticket is available for 3 hours and can be extended up to 2 times a day.

5. 5F

Finally, on the 5th floor, there is Materials Room 2 and a total 8 of Group Study Rooms. General materials (classification number and subject: 700 art, 800 literature, 900 history) are stored in the second library. Other details are the same as in the Materials Room 1.

The method of using Group Study Room 2 and 4 is the same as in group study room 1. Group Study Room 3, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 can be used in the same way, but the only difference is that the number of people who can use them is limited from 3 to 6 people.

I hope you find this information helpful. For more information, please refer to the Sangmyung University Library website and this video (https://youtu.be/JMyuSC43V1A)
